Nene Valley Group – Latest News
With slightly less than 2 months to go until the A.G.M. we still need to find replacements for our Secretary and Treasurer. It is IMPERATIVE that we find replacements for these two posts soon unless Nene Valley members are happy for the Group to cease. Please contact any member of the Committee if you are willing to take on either of these posts and save our Group.
Committee members of Nene Valley were asked to attend Carpetbaggers Aviation Museum rally a day earlier than the official rally to attend to certain housekeeping duties. Re-waterproofing our tents took some time especially as the wind decided to make its presence felt just as we started. A couple of hours later, all was done with the tents waterproofed, erected and suitably pegged down ready for the rally on Friday. The rest of the day was taken up with a Committee meeting, the main topic of which was the lack of interest of our members in coming forward to fill the 2 positions which will become vacant at our next AGM.
The main rally started on Friday at the usual time of 2.00 p.m. Stewards Pat and Paul had arranged for this to be a 40’s weekend where the option of dressing in the 40s style was not obligatory. Paul brought his vintage Morris 8 car – a beautiful black and maroon one and kept everyone supplied with newspapers etc., having collected them in the Morris. 22 vans arrived in total, 14 Nene Valley, 3 Anglia, 3 Chiltern, 1 East Mids and 1 Essex. We were treated to a 1940’s quiz on Friday evening in the tent organised by Pat and Paul. On Saturday morning quite a few members walked the short walk to the Carpetbaggers Aviation Museum and spent a few hours learning all about what went on at Harrington during the war. We gathered at 7.00 pm. in the tent to a wonderful array of wartime food, supplied and put together by Pat and Paul who also organised our 1940s raffle with such prizes as a wooden spoon and a packet of elastic. After a parade of those that dressed up, a good old fashioned sing-song followed by a mini proms, we all agreed that the weekend had been a huge success with thanks to the effort put in by our Stewards.
