Nene Valley Group – Latest News
24 vans arrived for our Christmas rally this weekend at South End School in Rushden. We just about managed to accommodate all 24 vans on the playground without having to send any members to other parts of the school grounds. Tony and Mick did an amazing job of parking everybody up in appalling conditions – dark, cold, driving rain and gale force winds! As the historical society had booked to use the main hall in the evening, we all met up in one of the classrooms for our usual catch-up – it was cosy to say the least but nobody seemed to mind. The rain had stopped by Saturday and the wind had dropped considerably. Two Christmas trees were erected and dressed, one by Ann and the other by Geraldine. After coffee the tables were put out and covered in table cloths ready to be decorated. Everybody met in the hall at 6.00 p.m. for a glass (or two) of sherry. This year as we didn’t have the facilities to cook a full Christmas meal like we have done in the past, Nene Valley decided to try something different. We provided the starter, cold turkey and ham followed by the desserts. Members brought in their own food to go with the meat. The food brought in was quite astounding, ranging from simple salads to full blown roast dinners with roast potatoes, vegetables etc. Jane had booked Billy de Laine to entertain us – a comedian and singer. What a very funny man he was and what a superb voice he had when he sung. He had a break half way through so we took advantage of that to do the raffle. Sandra outdid herself this year, and we had so many donated gifts we had to put another table out to take them all. Billy then carried on till just after 11.00 p.m., and managed to get people up on the dance floor. By about 11.45 pm everbody had staggered back to their vans for a well-deserved rest. Coffee morning on Sunday was bright and not nearly as windy as Friday, which meant travelling home was a good deal easier. We hope everyone enjoyed the Christmas weekend and hope to see all members in January at Wrenn School for our first rally of 2020. If there any signs of snow before then, please check the website as Wrenn School is known to cancel at the last minute.
Nene Valley wish all members a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
